What we'll do:
We will do an internet scavenger hunt and
make a group timeline of the events in Dr.
King's life. Each buddy group will make one
picture to go in the timeline. We will put the
timeline up in the classroom as a display.
Let's explore:
1. Come to Mrs. Hood and get an index card
with the year or date you need. Take it back
to the computer.
2. Look at pictures of Martin luther King Jr.
at the Time Magazine website.
3. Go here and look for the information you
need.
4. Write what you think is important about
that date on the index card and bring it to
Mrs. Hood. If you are right, she will give you
drawing paper so you can draw a picture of it
for display. If you are not, she will send you
back to the computer to hunt for information
again!
5. Draw a picture of the event on the drawing
paper. You do NOT need to be at the
computer for this step!! Go get the next
buddy pair so they can get started on the
internet part of the webquest. Then go to a
desk area to complete your drawing. Each
person should contribute to the drawing. For
example, maybe the older child will draw the
people and the younger child will do the
background. You work it out in a way you
both agree on. Color the WHOLE PAGE.
Our finished drawings will go on the web as
well as in the classroom!
6. Bring your finished drawing to Mrs. Hood.
You're finished! We hope you enjoyed this webquest. See you next time :-)
ADDITIONAL ASSIGNMENT:
You may also choose to write about one of the following topics:
- If Martin Luther King Jr. were alive today, do you think he'd be happy with the results of his work? Why or why not?
- What do you think was the most important thing Dr. King did during his lifetime? Why?
